The law’s supporters say the plant has been linked to a handful of deaths, but medical examiners have found that in almost all of those cases, kratom was combined with other drugs like heroin, cocaine and fentanyl. Caleb Curl, who owns Kameleon Kava & Coffee in Tallahassee, says he agrees with the law’s aim to restrict the sale of kratom to those over 21. But he worries that the new rules will have unintended consequences.
